Why We Love Our Plastic-Free Scrunchies!

When we think of Fast Fashion, we might not think scrunchies, but these little hair accessories can still be part of unethical, environmentally damaging fast fashion processes.

We might be able to buy a scrunchie for a few pounds, but the real price is much higher. Fast Fashion manufacturing is all about speed and price, so often they will use huge amounts of toxic chemicals, dyes and synthetic fabrics which in turn creates an awful lot of harmful waste materials. All of these chemicals make their way into our ecosystems and contribute to pollution and chemical damage to our water and soil, as well as to wildlife and people.

Due to production speeds and the need to produce items so cheaply, fast fashion workers are grossly underpaid, underfed and working in unsanitary, dangerous conditions.

As these scrunchies will be made quickly, they will also deteriorate quickly so they are more likely to be thrown away into, you guessed it, landfill. Your regular scrunchies will mostly likely be made of synthetic materials containing some form of plastic, with plastic elastic, and may contain all kinds of synthetic dyes which will disintegrate into the ground, dispersing these chemicals and micro-plastics.

Unlike Fast Fashion scrunchies, ours are ethically made in our studio in South Wales in the UK. We have a wonderful team of talented sewists that create not just our scrunchies, but all of our Tabitha Eve products! We ensure that all of our sewists and employees are paid at least the national living wage.

We are super proud to say that our scrunchies are 100% plastic-free and plant-based. They are made from Organic, Unbleached Cotton and come in 2 gorgeous fabrics: Soft Cotton Jersey and Cotton Velour, so whether so prefer a softer, more supple scrunchie or a bigger, more statement one, you can take your pick knowing that they're both made from organic cotton.

The plant-based elastic within is made from a mixture of cotton and naturally extruded rubber, this elastic makes them super stretchy and work well for even the thickest hair!

Thanks to all of that organic cotton and plant-based elastic, they are 100% biodegradable and can even be composted when you're finished with them!

We have carefully selected the perfect fabrics for our scrunchies to ensure that they look and feel fabulous in your hair! Both fabrics are super soft so they don't tug, tangle or tear your hair in the same way that some synthetic fabrics can, and are suitable for all hair types. We wanted to keep them simple, avoiding any nasty dyes, so both are unbleached - they'll go with anything so you can wear them however you like!
